Abstract:This paper examines the site of Auschwitz. Through a reading of the site's history, the discourses which have competed over the site's meaning are placed in the context of the elements they have contributed to the museum. This discussion is combined with a reading of the site as it exists today to explore both the degree to which these tensions are subsumed under one narrative and the degree to which they are allowed to speak.
