The American President and Humanitarian Crises: The U.S. Marginalization of the Rwandan Genocide

Author:

  • Kia Guarino (Boston College)

Abstract:

This project develops a generic criticism methodology through the analysis of President Clinton's public statements during the Rwandan genocide, as well as addresses the ethical and epistemic consequences of his rhetoric. Through the development of this methodology, a means of studying and more effectively dealing with humanitarian crises is made available. At the same time, it serves as an extension of Theodore Windt's International Crisis Genre and existing research on Presidential rhetoric.
