Old Dog New Trick: Assessing Service-Learning with NCA's Assessment Framework and Oral Communication Competencies

Abstract:This paper looks as assessment of a service-learning project which applied the NCA assessment framework and incorporated items from the Oral Communication Competencies posted on the NCA website. The service-learning project involved students enrolled in an introductory public speaking course at a private university with an engineering and aviation focus. Quantitative and qualitative assessment techniques were developed and implemented in a mixed-method approach. The results are presented and discussed.
