Abstract:
The Non-Verbal Communication Competence Scale (NVCCS) is introduced as a tool to assess international assignment candidates' non-verbal communication competence. Practitioners can use the NVCCS to conduct reliable needs assessments and training effectiveness evaluations. The NVCCS performs well in four studies conducted in New Zealand, the USA, the United Arab Emirates, and Germany. The NVCCS shows very high Cronbach's alpha scores, produces solid test - retest correlations, displays very high KMO scores, and explains on average about two thirds of the variance. The NVCCS shows no form of social desirability bias or most other biases. The NVCCS is sensitive enough to detect differences over time. Practical implications for trainers who use the NVCCS are discussed.
